Marta Spārniņa

Marta Spārniņa is a Latvian violinist. She spent her lucky childhood in small town Madona where besides other interests she started to play violin at the age of six. The passion of making music grew and in age of 14 she moved to Riga to enter Emīls Dārziņš Music school when she also started to play in Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, later also in the European Union Youth Orchestra. After finishing school she studied violin in Riga, Vienna and finally at the Hochschule für Musik Hanss Eisler Berlin with professor Ulf Wallin. Marta found it very important to come back to Latvia and right before final exams in Berlin in 2009 she got a concertmaster position in Latvian State chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga where she works untill now. She is also regular guest in Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, O/Modernt ensemble and as concertmaster – in Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. Before she has played as guest also in the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and as guest concertmaster - in the Royal Flemish Philharmonic orchestra. Marta loves to play chamber music and regulary plays with different formations. Nine years she has been first violin of Spikeru string quartet.
Since 2019 Marta is teaching violin at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
